EthOS, an operating system that is built to work with the ethereum blockchain, has launched a new major release. According to Markus Haas, co-founder of EthereumPhone, EthOS 2.1 includes a System Wallet secure enclave, a mint app, a light node indicator, and easier chain switching. This open-source operating system is a fork of LineageOS and is available on Github. To install it, an OEM Unlocked Google Pixel 3, 3XL, or 5a is required. EthOS comes with a native eth wallet and some blockchain capabilities such as insta NFT minting. It uses a light node to connect to the blockchain, which downloads only block headers containing information summaries. EthOS also integrates natively with the Ethereum Name Service (ENS) and introduces the Extensible Message Transport Protocol (XMTP), an open protocol for secure web3 messaging that creates an interoperable inbox for each web3 identity.
